Happy Valentine’s Day! I surprised my hubby with a card this morning; he wasn’t expecting anything since we weren’t going to make a big deal about today. But I wanted to get him a card at least, he said I made him feel bad because he didn’t get me anything, but I let him know that it was ok! :D I love him anyways!

Woke up to some crappy weather! Blowing wet snow coming from the East. Completely fogged in. We woke up early and did the morning ritual of walking the dogs. The internet at my house isn’t working… well it says I’m connected but I’m not getting online. So that really sucks…

The barge is going to come in today around 19 hundred hours (7PM). My hubby has a pretty bad head/chest cold, so he’ll be staying home for this call out. Really sucks, this was his barge to catch up on hours and now he has to pass on it. His health is more important than work though when we have other people who can fill in!

I ran down to town on the 4-wheeler and got the cash out for the store at noon. Didn’t really see anyone outside at all. The wind has let down a bit and it’s just raining now. Not bad temps temp wise, mid to high 30’s.

We went down to the café and had their special. Pork loin roast with mashed potatoes and salad on the side for $13.95. Pretty good, and the usual lots of food! Took the left overs to my dad, was enough to feed him too! I also picked up my order of 6 assorted cupcakes, I love the mini cupcakes Lisa made. I swear I can eat a million of those little bite-size pieces of heaven!

We didn’t do anything really today but hang out in the house with the pups. Nothing on tv today either, well the cable was out this morning because of the wet snow, probably all built up on the satellite dish. But once it started to rain the cable came back on. Nothing really on tv today, at least Cops and America’s Most Wanted are on tonight. We don’t have any new movies to watch either, so I guess it’s re-runs and more channel flipping…. At 10:30 PM it was 41F out, with a slight drizzle of rain, a slight fog breeze whisping through the air. Wonder that this weather wants to do... I heard it's supposed to get worse than it was earlier!! We'll see I guess....TTFN

P.S. I've been offered to go on board the NW before... they were tendering doing the herring season one year with the Karen Evich in our harbor. I'll publish a post with those pix :)

Wow.. It's already the 3 week anniversary of my blog!! Not to mention it's Friday the 13th!! I'm not too big on superstitions, but there are some that I do follow. Like not to walk under ladders, and breaking glass gives 7 years bad luck. And I don't like to step foot on the F/V Northwestern because I know that the captain has superstitions about women on the boat (well I don't go on any boats but my dad and uncles or unless I have to take one to get on/off the island!).

I can't believe how fast this year is already blowing by... Valentine's Day tomorrow already! My niece finally got her birthday presents that I ordered her online, gee took it long enough, and you'd think it wouldn't take as long to get to Valdez then it would to here! But I'm happy that she loved the new clothes that I got her, I always remember my aunties sending me new clothes! I loved getting anything in from my family when I was a kid! So I'm happy to at least do the same for my nieces (no nephews yet!)!

Well, woke up to a pretty windy morning. It was blowing like hell all night! Like I said the other day, red sky in the morning! This is a pretty good size storm packing a good punch wind-wise! Not much precipitation, not as warm as yesterday but holding at about 36F. Almost all the snow on the hills have melted. Obviously not getting any planes today. There are at least 2 dozen boats hiding out from the storm in our harbor, most of them are tied up at Trident dock (almost 5-6 boats out from the dock!).

Nothing much going on in the office. The guys are still working painting and replacing the trim in the Cattle Company office. The store opened usual time at 10AM. I got all the charge slips entered into the charge book. Made some copies of the daily sheets for both the office and the store so now I'm good on those for at least another month. Bought some cash from the Post Office and made them checks for it. I got a little bored and changed my blog a bit... I took pix of the pups last night, but they are on the computer at home, and the internet at home is being a pain in the ass! So hopefully get those posted here sometime!

I didn't want to cook today for lunch, so we went and ordered the usual from the cafe to go. French dip like usual for me and a chicken burger w/no cheese for the hubby. The pups love when I have french dip... they get to do tricks for some of the meat ;) Trying to teach Dante to sit. He'll slowly catch on. He's finally loving my hubby, going right up to him and asking to be picked up. When we first got Dante, he wouldn't go near my hubby for nothing, even food! I'm so happy that he's finally opened up to him! I love how he just took to everything really good, the whole transition and everything. Potty training is going great too! We clipped some pads up in places so they can lift their leg and go pee! I think they like it! :D

I got a couple reservations in, the new Doctor and assistant should be coming in. Also, waiting for the dentist to call in for their hotel reservations, I know they are coming there are signs up. Nothing much to do in the office this afternoon. Cashed a couple checks, people paid a bit on their store accounts. I'm going to get payroll done between 3-3:30 today, we are closed on Monday.

Not sure what to eat for dinner tonight. I am thinking I want something light. I don't want to have to dirty up the kitchen by cooking something big. Maybe go see what kind of microwave food is down in the store. Pizza sounds good but I don't think we have any down there right now... and I'm too lazy to make my own... so we'll see when the time comes :P

Not sure what all is supposed to be on TV tonight. Would have been a good day to go cook steam bath, but the hubby wanted to stay home with the pups and get some cleaning done. I love that he keeps the house clean for me! Tomorrow is the one year mark since we got our Roscoe! I can't believe that a year ago today I only had my bk lab Tug! Now we have 2 little chi's added to our family!!!! I wouldn't mind adding a female chi to the group eventually, but that won't happen for at least a year or two!

Not sure when the weather is supposed to clear up. Looked like a good size storm. At least it doesn't feel too cold outside. Just blowing pretty good! Well have a great weekend. TTFN

Thrusday, February 12, 2009

Woke up to a crappy morning. It's raining hard and blowing outside, not bad with 45F degrees out though! Most the snow has turned into ice, the boardwalks are pretty clear of ice now. I put a harness on Dante and he's starting to want to go out side with his brothers. I just want it warmer out there before he tries to join them. A good gust will hit the house once and a while, it's blowing a good 25MPH out there, gusting up to 40MPH, at least!

Nothing much going on again this morning. We have some guys paining in the Cattle Company's office. The store opened at the usual time of 10AM. I didn't feel too great when I came down to work, hope I'm not getting that damn flu that's going around...

My morning was going pretty good, then I was given word that my great grandma Ivy (my dad's grandma) passed away from brain cancer last night. She just turned 91 in December, she was a proud smoker of Pall Malls non-filter for the past 70+ years. She was a lively person for her age, you wouldn't believe how fast she could move around! She made 90 look 60! My grannie always had a special part of my heart, I am going to miss her greatly. I am happy that she was able to meet my hubby at least! Anytime I was in Washington I always made sure I'd stop by and see her! She made some pretty good home made wine, some was "cough, cough" harsh but got you pretty lit up! She was a pretty amazing woman! I only hope to have as long and great a life as she has had!

Other than hearing that, I got the charge slips entered into the books and just sat here crying and missing her. Its so hard to accept the fact that someone has passed away when you barely see them and when it comes time to go visit them is when it hits me the hardest. Like this girl I know from Nelson Lagoon, it's so hard for me to accept the fact that this year is going to be 2 years since she passed, and it's so hard to look at her little sister and not see her, you know... Or just like this girl I went to RAHI (Rural Alaska Honors Institute at the University of Alaska Fairbanks), I just found her on myspace, talked with her.. then I went and commented on her page.. and a couple days later her little sister got back to me and let me know she passed away. I couldn't believe it.. I was just talking with her the other day... it's so hard to accept the things in life we cannot change - I guess that's why there is that serenity prayer huh? God grant me courage.... I guess we're all born to die one day....

Well I had some cheese sticks for lunch and the hubby opened a can of Dinty Moore beef Stew. Tyra was pretty interesting today, new show tomorrow too... good I hate having to watch re-runs...

Still crappy as hell out there, warmed up a degree up to 46F now! The ride home and back to work got me soaked. Nothing much to get done in the office today. Wish I could just go back home, curl up in my bed with a hot cup of tea. I love ordering loose tea from Summit Spice and Tea. They have this awesome coconut tea and carmel tea, I also like the vanilla tea! They offer more than just tea though! I had a friend who worked there, so that's how I found out about it. They have a website if you'd like to check them out (just google them :P)

All new Gangland on History Channel and Hells Kitchen on Fox tonight. So at least I have something to look forward to on TV tonight... Kinda looking forward to a 3-day weekend, well really on Monday when I don't have to do any paperwork. The school called and asked for a list of everyone's birthday's for a calendar. So that gives me something to do... I won't give them years just months and days of everyone I know. I pretty much know almost everyone's b-days around here...

Well that's pretty much it for the day. Obviously no planes today! Probably eat at the cafe tonight... or find something in the cupboards or fridge/freezer.... TTFN - ta ta for now

R.I.P Great Grandma Ivy

I just got news that my Great grandma - my dad's gram - passed away from brain cancer this last night..... :'(

I loved her dearly, she was such a great person! She just turned 91 I believe... She will always live in my memories, I am going to miss her more than words can express.....

LOVE YOU GRANNIE! REST IN PEACE!!

Wish there was a way to go to her funeral (in Washington)... I can't just up and leave though....

:'( - crying............

Grannie, I will see you again one day! Watch over us....

Sun rise this morning from my office window...

What a beautiful morning to wake up to! The sky was pink and barely any clouds. Then when the sun started to rise up over the hills on the south part of the harbor, we had a little bit of dark clouds bunching up in the sky colored a pink/purple color. It’s 37F out and clear out. Red sky in the morning, sailors take warning. Red sky at night, sailors delight. So, since the sky was red/pink this morning, I wouldn’t doubt that there is bad weather on its way again. We always have a calm before the storm!

We’ve been getting used to going to sleep early in order to wake up earlier. Makes getting out of bed in the morning so much more easier. Roscoe and Dante love sleeping in the bed with us at night. They are so cute when we wake up, they both will crawl up and lay right next to our faces and try to be as close as they can get until we get out of the bed. Then we’ll take all the pups straight outside to do their thing. Dante is getting interested in what Tug and Roscoe are doing outside, he’s learning what “potty” means, and he hears us tell Roscoe that when he’s outside. So hopefully once it warms up more I’ll put a harness on him and let him start to explore with his brothers!

Garbage day today, so we made sure to put the garbage out before heading down to the office. I brought Dante down to work with me today. Nothing much happening in the office this morning. I got the charge slips entered into the charge book, store opened at 10. I posted our signs saying we're closed for President's Day. I have to get payroll done this Friday, we do it on Friday’s when we’re closed on Monday’s. I also posted a sign for a Temp Stock Helper for the store. Someone to help bring items from the stock storage area, which is upstairs above the store, and bring them down so that our stocker can price them. Our stocker we have would do it, but she has arthritis in her back and it hurts to be carrying all those cases; so, we’re getting someone to help her. At least it’s another job opening available I guess, better than firing someone we’ve had for a long time!!

I heard that there is a cold/flu going around and it’s originating from the Trident plant. I wouldn’t doubt that for a minute, for how many people they have up there in such a small space. Not to mention that they have people from all over the world working up there, so you never know what they are bringing with them when they all come back. I already heard that our Post Master is sick, I figured she’d be first since she deals with plant employees first down at the Post Office, then I figured our store clerk, me, and the girls down at the city office and probably everyone who works at the clinic and maybe people at the café (if there are a lot of sick people eating there). Since we all have to deal with money, which can also be a carrier for cold/flu viruses! So I wasn’t too surprised to hear that our PM was sick. I’m just hoping that I’m taking enough precautions to try to stay healthy! I do have a stomach ache a bit though… and a headache…. I can’t get sick - I have to take care of the office!!!

We had grilled cheese and soup for lunch today. I’m slacking like hell with cooking that kielbasa… I want it… but by the time we realized we didn’t cook yet it was already 9PM! So we ended up eating Lucky Charms cereal instead :P I’ll make sure to get my butt into gear and start dinner at 6:30 tonight so it can be done by 7PM!
We had 2 planes this morning, just before lunch like usual! A little bit of mail came in, I’m not sure if they are moving people yet or not. They are flying both planes today, usually it’s just one plane that’s flying.

Still nothing much going on in the office this afternoon. I got some more paperwork entered into the computer, I have a deposit I can get done. We should have another freighter getting ready to leave Seattle this Friday, so we’ll get getting more stuff in next week. I think we’re good on orders for now. Always finding stuff that we need to order… Got a couple phone calls in. Mostly people calling for hotel rates and reservations, then the usual wrong number. I swear I get at least 1 wrong number call a day! I have some hotel billing that I can get done up, maybe vacuum up a bit and clean up the office some more. My hotel house keeper checked in with me and let me know that all the rooms are clean once again, just in case we have anyone who comes in. We don’t have anyone currently staying with us right now (other than Lisa and Duy).

I don’t believe there is going to be anything interesting on tv tonight. New Dog the bounty hunter and PPA (Philadelphia Parking Authority) on A&E is all that I can think of… hopefully there is something good on… if not I’m gonna see if I can find a vhs tape and transfer all our vacation video’s on to one media. I should actually send them in to get them digitalized… who does that Ritz? Hmmm makes me wonder now… I want to get a digital video camera and sell the camera we have now (it’s still practically brand new, we bought it before going to Hawaii in 07, then took it with us to LA) but I’d like to have everything on the computer so I can make DVD’s with this video making program I have on my computer! I don’t know how to get my videos from the camera to the computer…. I don’t know if there is away…. Play it on the tv and have my digital cam set to record and record it that way… LMAO!!! I’ll figure it out…. Having a copy on VHS is fine for me right now :P

Hmmm…. So I hear people must be talking about me… ha ha ha… want to hear the rumor about me? So I guess I’m pregnant… I didn’t know that! New news to me… Just to let everyone know the truth… Nope… not pregnant…. Sorry to burst your bubbles…… Funny when you actually get to hear something that’s being said about you, it’s like no one wants to admit to who said it, but someone said it! And man does word spread faster than a wildfire around here!! I just wanted to make that straight! 
We’ll see what’s being said tomorrow :P ha ha ha… ok well have a great Wednesday!

Below is a pic of town that we have in the Corp office. I have marked buildings of importance. The boardwalk is outlined in pink. The yellow star is the City Office Building. The pink Paw print is where my office, the store, and Post Office are located. Green Paw print is the bar, blue paw print the school, The church is circled, My house is marked! The big building 3 buildings to the left of my house is the library, reccenter, museum, arts n craft building.

Tonight's Sun Set from my porch:

Today started out pretty good I guess... lazy to get out of bed, but we went to sleep early last night, so at least I'm not sleepy. Took the pups out and the weather is just beautiful out! Clear, just the sounds of rock ducks, sea gulls, and the occasional 4-wheeler riding around in town. Faint sounds from Trident - forklifts beeping. It's about 37F out. The snow on the ground is still there, the boardwalks are iced over.

I got to work and entered in the charge slips from the yesterday. Called the City and asked for how much 5 gal of gas was, $22.00 is what they told me. So I went and got the jerry jug and took it down to the City's fuel storage, by the City garage. I didn't make it back down to the City office to pay for the gas until after lunch hour.

We had taco snacks, again, for lunch today. Tyra was a re-run, so we watched the Semi-Home Made with Sandra Lee and Everyday Italian with Giada on Food Network.

I have to make signs for the office, we're closed on Monday in observance of President's Day. So that will be something to do. I downloaded a couple songs from iTunes, some of the new ones that I don't have yet. I hear them on the radio all the time, so I figured time to get them :)

We ended up eating at the cafe again last night, got the usual of french dip for me and chicken nuggets for the hubby. We were going to have halibut chowder, then I wanted kielbasa. So I got everything for kielbasa, but I got lazy and didn't want to cook (even though it only takes like what, 30 mins total :P). So we ordered quarter after 8, they close at 8:30PM. So we'll cook that kielbasa up tonight.

I left Dante home today with my hubby, or daddy as we say to the pups. Dante is really opening up to my hubby finally, a week later! He'll go up to him now, and sleep next to him and beg for attention. So I figured I'd let Dante stay home with him so they can bond more! He's getting to be such a good little boy! Eating good, according to the dog food bag he's almost ready to move up to adult food for his age and size! Roscoe can eat puppy food for up to a year and a half. We were just about to change him to adult food then we got Dante, so we're going to wait until they finish up this 8lb bag of puppy food, then we'll rip open the 20lb bag of adult food. They are eating Purina Pro Plan - Small Breed Formula. Tug has the Large Breed formula. I love how my dog's coats look, and they have nice muscle definition! I love that food for my dogs! I was happy to hear that Dante's breeder was feeding him the same food I was feeding my dogs! I was scared to change his diet so drastically, I don't want to deal with doggy runs....

We got one plane in so far, came just before lunch time. Not sure what all came in, but at least I know mail got out. When I went to drop the jerry jug off, I noticed a good amount of mail on the ATV trailer. Only car on the island belongs to Trident. They use it to go to the Post Office to drop off/pick up mail, and to take their workers too and from the plane when they are arriving and leaving. Other than that, there are mostly just 4-wheeler ATVs and the city has a couple John Deere 6 wheeler's (gators I believe), and the Clinic has one that is decked out as their "ambulance". The VSPO has a UTV, I believe it's a Yamaha Rhino 650. Pretty cool how it's set up kinda like a car, with seat belts and a steering wheel. 2 passenger, with like a small truck like bed. They should put a light bar on it... LMAO!!!

The second plane should be back by 4:30PM today. The weather got kinda hazy like over the day. It's overcast, but you can still see the sun through it. Looks like bad weather is coming, but that's my opinion. Still 37F out, feels colder than that though. I sent back one of the Video Professor cd rom, they said I could keep the rest. So that's cool, I'll let my mom go through them if she needs to. I set it up to do daily backups to the hard drive, but we do weekly backups to a disc all the time anyways, have too just in case!

I hear Trident people walking around going in and out of the store. I heard that people up there have the flu and colds. I hope I don't get sick... at least not while my mom isn't here. I can't afford to stay home, no one else to take care of the office. So I'm hoping not to get sick, I'm cleaning up my office and washing my hands a lot.

I had one check out for the hotel and I'm going to get hotel billing done today. We had all those people who filled us up left on boats the other night. So I have to get someone up to clean those rooms in case we have people come in unexpectedly. Gives me something to do I guess... I'll go to the Post Office later and see what kind of mail came in...

Ok let me explain a bit about how our City works: with buying fuel, gas, electric and our cable tv:
The City has I believe 2 CAT generators located between the church and the dock. All the power cables are buried here, and all the houses are hard wired to the city's main power. We all have power meters on our houses(pic posted) that get read and recorded every month by a city employee, but inside we have these like electric meters that keep track of how much power we have bought from the city: it keep track of our how much money we have left, power usage, how much we spend in a day, per kilowatt hour, per month, and how many days the current amount of money left on it has. If you run out of money, you will accumulate debit on your machine, and the power will go out at 9:30AM the next business day. So, we have to go to the City office with our power card that you insert into the machine once you get money refilled on it, and it will transfer what ever amount you bought from your card to your machine. Any debit on the machine will be taken out of the amount you just bought.
The City also has a couple satellite dishes that get Direct TV cable. They have cables run through out town, and we pay $40/month + 10/per extra TV for a max of $50 a month for cable. Our cable isn't too bad, better than what we had before. We used to have only 13 channels before the city transferred to Direct TV, now we get like 37 channels. Anyone who wants cable contacts the city and they pay a $15 hook up fee. Cable payments are due by the 7th of each month for that month, if you don't pay your cable is cut off and you'll have to pay the hook up fee again.
Fuel and gas is paid for at the City office. They have a couple people who work for the city who will come by and delivery your fuel to your house or boat for you. With gas purchases we have to take our jerry jugs down to the City's gas storage near which is down by where the generators are. Once paid for the city will let someone know and they will go fill it for us.

GCI provides internet for everyone. You call them and order a $300 receiver kit that gets installed on your house and points to the main tower next to the store. Internet is $49.99 a month, and I know there are limits on how much you down load, it used to be limitless. But now it's like 10 cents a MB if you go over 70MB a month or something like that. Internet reception is pretty good, way better than dial up! GCI has been providing us wireless internet now since 2002. I like that it's fast enough for my Wii and Xbox 360 to get online! :D

ACS provides telephone service here. You call them to put a work order in for a new phone line. They will send a tech here who will put your phone line in for you. I forget what the connection fee is, but regular phone charges with call waiting is just under $30 a month with no long distance. I got with GCI and their anywhere plan. It's like 6-7 dollars a month for 60 free minutes and 14cents a min after that. And I get Alaska Air Miles for all my GCI phone/internet bills. I usually never use up my whole 60 free min a month, so it works great for me! I know AT&T also has a long distance program, but I don't go through them so I don't know prices for them. Phone prefixes here start with : 698- cell phones: 381-.

Monday, February 9, 2009

Woke up to a semi-beautiful morning. The rock ducks whistling and calling to each other, a calm light snow falling from the sky. About 8 inches of heavy snow lay on the ground. The snow blower went by the house around 8:15AM, after hitting the snooze button on my alarm clock until it wouldn't go off anymore, I finally coaxed myself out of bed. My mom is gone for conferences, so I have to get to work by 9:30AM so I can get the paperwork out for the store. Monday... payroll has to get done today too... At 8:30AM I got a call asking what time are time cards due in the office, I let them know I need them by 10AM. Right after hanging up my mom called me from Dutch, excited letting me know she got to meet CB!

I ran out of money on my electric(stat) and have to go buy some more power from the city. The power doesn't shut off over the weekend, it'll accumulate debit, then at 9:30AM on Monday the power will shut off! At least I was out of the house before the power shut off, but my hubby rode down into town with me so he can go to the City office so he can get some $$ put on our stat card, take it home and run it through the machine. Then our lights will be back on... :P

Brought Dante to work with me again, I think since I've had him I've only been away from him for like 3-4 hours (when we went to steam bath), other than that he's always with me! He's been putting some weight on and filling out and starting to look great! He was a little scrawny when we got him, but now he's loving everything - I think my lil ones just like to run around the house, they are pretty fast!

Weather looks nice enough for a plane... ha, just cause my mom and Eva took the freighter over, it's flyable today... it seems like it's always like that. Supposed to leave from here and the weather is supposed to be crappy, so we all take a boat over to Dutch. Then just because we're already over there or something, the weather decides to clear up and the goose will fly! And half the time it's a really bad boat ride (get your puke bags out!) that take 4-5 hours! But at least they'll be making it to all their conferences, I went last year, this year it's my mom's turn. :)

Well I have to get payroll done this morning. Got the paperwork out for the store, Alice (my mother-in-law) is working for Eva while she is out, she usually just works on the weekends but this week she'll work M-F for me. Thank her because I don't really have anyone else to work at the store, and I don't want to have to do it (hard to run the store and office at the same time). So at least I have my mother-in-law to fill in!

We have a demolition crew, put up a sign up sheet and had those people go to work for us tearing down the old store building. It's one of the oldest building left standing in the village. But it's about to fall in on its self, you can see the sides starting to try to buckle and working it's way down towards the ground. So we have guys working on tearing it down and making burn piles on the beach. They took the 4-wheeler this morning so they can haul the bigger stuff that isn't burnable down to the city's "dump" pile. I think my hubby is going to jump on that project, he's been signed up for it. We have a good amount of guys signed up, so hopefully doesn't take long to get that building down.

Lunch wasn't too bad... cooked up some kosher hot dogs. The pups loved that we cut up some of the leftovers and let them share! The sun is bright out in the white snow! Not only did we run out of power this morning, but we noticed we're also out of damn fuel! So down to the City office again to order fuel!

I got payroll done just before leaving to lunch, now I'm sitting here this afternoon trying to find stuff to keep me busy for now. I have charge slips to enter into the book. I can still enter my paperwork into the spreadsheets (seems like that is never ending)... I got a couple checks to write for the Post office. We got one plane in so far, I heard they brought a good amount of mail (wonder if I got anything in???) I'll get to work on a deposit here later. I need to look around and see if I need to get an office supply order done (check on how many time cards, paperclips, tape, sticky, paper and envelopes we have).

My love is cooking steam bath today. He could have gone to work but he wasn't sure what they were doing today, so he'll join them tomorrow. So today he's going to clean and cook steam bath. Sounds like something great to look forward to after work. The USA network channel is having the Westminster Dog show today 8/7 Central, continuing on CNBC at 9/8 central. So I have something to watch tonight. Plus new episodes of The love of Ray J and I Love Money 2 on VH1, also new Man vs Wild and One Way Out on Discovery Ch. I'm just looking forward to the dog show! :D

Not sure what we're going to cook up for dinner tonight. Halibut chowder sounds good again. We got bacon in the store again, so this time it'll be easier to make (had to scrounge around and bum bacon from people last time!)... I'd love to have BBQ halibut, but I have to order a new grill... mine didn't make it this winter... lol

I don't know exactly what the plane is doing today, but I know they made one flight so far and are scheduled to be back around 4:30PM. It's beautiful out, about 36 degrees. I wonder what the weather was supposed to do?? Can never predict our weather around here, well you can but your odds aren't great!

Sunday, February 8, 2009

So again I wasn't able to enjoy sleeping in on my weekend! Dropped the hubby off to the barge at 11:30PM, came home and tried to up load pictures - the internet just wouldn't let me, kept saying I wasn't connected, which has to be BS if I'm chatting on messenger. Came home and got ready to go to sleep around quarter to 1AM. I was sleeping ok I guess, I have a hard time sleeping by myself - at least I have the pups! At about 2AM my mom called me for the 4-wheeler, her and Eva are going to take the freighter over to Dutch. Conferences for a week or so. So it's best to get out of here and wait for the Saab in Dutch.

So after running Eva and her luggage down (Eva lives next door to me) to the freighter, I went and got my mom's stuff and dropped her off. She informed me that I'm going to have to do the freighter (price everything and put it away for the store), but she told me I can get to it around 9AM. So, I came back home, cold and wide awake again. So I layed in bed with my sleepy pups until I fell back asleep. My alarm went off and startled me. I was half awake trying to figure out what it was... ha ha ha... I realized I had to get up to get down to the store and get a little group of people to go to work putting everything away and pricing it all. I got the paperwork done for yesterday's paperwork, my mom hadn't done it yet but it was in the safe, so now I'm ready for when I have to go back to the store at 12. After making sure everything was ok, and that someone from the City was there to man the forklift, I went back home.

I sat around and waiting for my hubby to call... it's almost been 11 hours and I'm hoping they are getting done soon. He called me 11AM and told me that Trident had them waiting (well asked them to wait) another 45 mins for 1 more container. Before I realized what time it was, I had to get my butt down to the store and get the cash out for the day! Good thing I still have the 4-wheeler! I almost forgot that I took my mom to the freighter this morning!!! I think I was half asleep!

After getting the cash out, and getting some ice cream. I made my way home once again. Luckily I have goggles, a scarf, hat, good hood and a coat that zips up far enough for me to be out riding in that crappy weather. It was kinda of nice this morning, light snow and breeze, temps in the low 30's. Then about 10:30AM the weather went to crap, white out conditions, heavy snow (perfect for snowmen or snowballs!), and a good constant wind that keeps the snow blowing side ways! Temps still moved up to the mid 30's

At about 12:15PM my hubby called and said he and Raymond was ready to get picked up. So I bundled back up and got back out in that weather so I can get my love out of it! It was not a nice ride let me tell you!! The snow stung on any exposed skin, and even with my goggles it was hard to see with all the snow! Not to mention it's a headwind up to Trident! I got up there and they were just getting done signing out and ready to get off the barge (which already had it's lines thrown and only one line was holding it to the dock). It's always good to see "the guys" on the tug.

We got home and the dogs were just jumping and whining and so excited to see "dad" come home! Roscoe was looking for him last night before we went to sleep... we didn't do much, realized what time it was so I cooked up some tacos. I ended up using the rest of my Taco Bell Fire sauce :( Time to call my sister!!

Now we're just sitting around the house, trying to see what's on T.V. I know my hubby has to be super tired, he hasn't gone to sleep yet. And he only took a small 2 hour nap last night before having to go to work! At least I know I'm going to sleep comfortably with him home, and he's going to be out of it! Thinking about having a bowl of ice cream, CB's blog got me craving something sweet (by the way, everything looks delicious!!). I hope everyone had a great weekend!

Slobbery kisses to all from Tug, Roscoe and Dante!! ;) All of who are getting along awesome! Dante has already put on muscle and is starting to open up to everyone. I'm trying to let everyone hold him or pet him, socialization is key to a perfect pet! I'm happy Roscoe is perfect, except the barking that comes with the breed! I let my pups bark when they are having fun, but not too much.. or when we leave the house I let them cry... they have to learn that they can't come everytime! I'm going to order another 30" 8 panel dog pen to add to the one I have so that they have more space. Right now Dante gets the smaller side, and Roscoe get's the bigger side... but at least they are still right next to each other so they can be comfortable! TTFN!

My Hubby's Model Boats

These are all made from a simple cork/foam buoy that you can get at any marine store. All hand made from scratch, either by memory or we take pix so that he can make it as acurate as it can get! Carved out with Victornox knives.

Model of the Tug Gyrfalcon that my hubby made, this took a little over 4 months to finish.
The first pic is the actual tug Gyrfalcon for comparison.

A dragger that my hubby made, not named - modeled after a couple different boats. This took about 3 months to finish.

Woke up the the phone ringing at 9AM... I thought it was the weekend??? What happened to sleeping in? So we're up at 9AM, there is nothing good on TV so we left it on CNN. We walked the dogs, the weather is still as crappy it was yesterday. Blowing snow and cold out.

We ended up staying up and watching the pups play around. We sat around pretty much all afternoon just hanging out in the house. We had my hubbys parents go to the store and pick us up the soda that we were running out of! Happy we didn't have to walk out in that weather.

By about 3PM the weather got nice out, but still a little breezy, the clouds are dark. We decided to walk down to the cafe and have a bite to eat at 5:30PM. I had an egg flower soup and the hubby had mongolian beef. We took his left overs to his parents, there was a lot of food and I even ate some!

We got a call out for the barge. Midnight tonight, 2 guys. So my hubby and Ray are going to go back up tonight. Hopefully they won't be working as long as they did last week. I make sure to send my hubby up with a thermos full of hot lipton tea (we don't drink coffee, and he needs something to drink to help stay warm!)!

Still talking and working with my sister on our plans for end of the year. Like I said I like to be prepared and would like to get our airline tickets bought here soon, incase rates change we'll already be booked! So hopefully we can both save up and get that done before end of next month. Car rental is easy to make, but we'll have to have extra put on the side for the hotel deposits too. I figured we can wait just until we go down to get our tickets to all the parks, since those prices change by end of the year! My sister's fiancee is super excited knowing that we are getting everything figured out, he don't care - as long as we're going!

I got my Video professor CD/DVD roms in the mail the other day. I got Quickbooks, so I am learning all I can from these discs then mailing them back. I get 10 days to review them, then just have to mail 1 disc back. But I might just send it all back to them.... I have to call them on Monday. But I am going through all the lessons. Some of it I already know, some is new to me, some we don't even need to know because we don't use that part of the program. I like to make sure I know what's going on with stuff in the office, like how to run the programs correctly! And that takes having to learn all I can about it! So that's what I'm doing.

Other than the video professor, I am just blogging it and letting the hubby sleep until the barge comes in. I have the 4-wheeler, so I'll be driving him and Ray up to work when they need to go up. I have my radio on the channel that the barge uses and the captain said he'd call me to let me know when they are here incase I don't hear/see them coming in the bay. That tug is so powerful that you can hear it rumbling from out in the bay in our house! Can always tell when it's going by out front, not hard to mistake the sounds of those monster engines! We named our lab after that tug (the Gyrfalcon), my hubby's been working for them since he turned 18! Not to mention I used to always say it was meant to come/be here, since our high school mascot as the falcon, to be more specific our mascon was the gyrfalcon. So it seemed no coinincidence that that tug comes here!!! My hubby made a pretty acurate model of that tug out of a foam cork/bouy. He also makes models of fishing boats. Right now he is currently working on that famous white boat everyone knows (I don't know if he wants me to tell anyone or not, but oh well I guess I just did....). He made a couple boats modeled after a couple different boats, but this is the second time he is trying to make an identical copy of a boat (the tug Gyrfalcon being his first almost identical model boat. He carves the cork/foam bouy with Victornox brand knives and likes to use different colored corks/bouys and uses krazy glue to secure everything. I just got him into painting his boats, which he thought wouldn't work great but it looks pretty good! So that's something that takes up his spare time and keep him busy. He's been making those boats ever since his parents would let him handle something sharp enough to cut into the cork! I can always remember all the boys around here playing "boats" down on the beach, all with their crabbers and draggers carved out of those same cork bouys! So it's something he's always done, but I've been trying to convince him to start doing them out of wood. I don't know if he's up to the challenge, but I hope he opens up to the idea someday!

Blogger isn't letting me up load pix right now, but I will try to post pix of my hubby's work later.

YAY, it's the 2 week anniversary of my blog!! :D

Woke up to a blizzard of a morning. Can't even really see the light pole on the other side of the board walk! Blowing snow and white out conditions. I called down to my mom and asked if I could stay home today with Dante. Seeing that I got almost everything I needed to finished up done for this week. So I stayed home and did pretty much nothing.

We got our Saw V movie in yesterday, but my father-in-law forgot to bring it up last night, so he gave it to my mom today and she brought it up for me at lunch time. We watched that this afternoon. Not really what I expected, but it had me shaking at times!

I love watching my pups play together. Dante is just finding out that Tug is around and loves to try to play with him. Tug just sits there and looks at us as Dante is hanging off his lips and ears. I have to make sure to let that little guy, or "mouse" as my hubby's been calling him, knows that it's not OK to be chewing up his older brothers. Dante still has puppy teeth! At least I know I have plenty of stuff for him to chew on. It's funny how Roscoe and Dante love to play keep away from each other and chase each other around the house. Dante is getting some muscles in his legs, starting to jump and make it up on the couches and bed now! I think he's just learning from watching Roscoe rule the house! I saw Dante follow him to the window sill earlier this afternoon to watch if anyone was walking by!

We had our usual from the cafe today. I had my french dip with cheese this time, and the hubby had a chicken burger. Ate kinda late, so we probably won't eat a big dinner, just snack on chips and what ever else we have in the house. I know I have pistachio's somewhere..... forgot to go to the store to pick up our usual box of soda each, so hopefully we don't run out before the store opens back up tomorrow....

I got that video professor cd rom learning kit thingy. I get to look at the 3 disks for the next 10 days, then mail a disk back and keep the other 2. So I got Quickbooks, so I can learn anything else on it that I don't understand. See what it's all about and stuff, then get a disc back in the mail, ASAP.

There was absolutely nothing on tv today... not even good re-runs of any of those "reality" shows... I feel so tired and ready to go to sleep, but then I look at the time and it's so early! Especially for a Friday! At least I have Leno to look forward to tonight.

I've been busy playing travel agent today, pricing up how much everything would cost to attend our friends wedding this December. I like to make sure I have everything planned out way in advance. That way I can budget and.... I don't know..... I guess I just like to make dream plans that I want to set into motion one day. And putting it on paper and figuring out what I have to do to get that dream accomplished, is where I like to start! So I'm getting airline ticket prices, hotel prices, car rental prices, and park ticket prices. Then share all the info I'm gathering with my little sis, since we're planning on going on this trip together with our significant others (and maybe her baby!). So far not too bad what I'm finding. The part that kills us (my hubby and I) is the airfare from here (akutan-KQA) to Anchorage (ANC)!! But, we'll see what we do, might use mileage tickets to get to Anchorage, then pay for 1st class to fly down south... I'll figure it out when the times gets closer... for now I'll budget and quote everything!

Obviously no planes today.. hell the weather was so bad I didn't even walk to work! The temp is hanging out in the high 20's, wind is blowing a good 20-30 mph from the W. Dumping a light powdery snow, but lots of it (white out conditions). Roscoe didn't even go off the porch to potty (he usually goes on the lamp pole across the boardwalk). Tug don't care he loves the snow, went out to use the bathroom and all he did was roll in the snow and jump around!

I ordered a bunch of supplies for my spoiled babies! Roscoe needed a new sherpa bag to travel in, he don't fit in the small anymore - needs a med. But Dante can definitely fit in his old one! I also got Dante a new baby blue colored bed! I also had to order all my pups food. They all eat Purina Pro Plan - Large breed for Tug, Small breed for the little ones! I figured I'd throw in some dog toys, milk bones, these dingo bones they love, some bullysticks, and of course more pee pads! Damn shipping is an arm and a leg when it comes to their damn dry dog food, but for my babies it's worth it!

Thrusday, February 5, 2009

Woke up and walked the two older pups, Dante still doesn't want to go outside. Maybe when it warms up later this year! The wind is blowing a good 15mph from the SW, gusting up to 25 at least.. The sun came up at about 10:05AM, I was a little late walking down to work. I didn't hear my dad knocking at my door trying to let me know he was taking the bike this morning so he can get a dive done. I didn't notice the bike gone until I walked out of the house. So I asked my mom and she told me that my dad took it. So I walked down to work today :) Brought Dante, I can't see leaving him alone at all right now. Very crucial to bond for this first week, at least I feel it is!

I'm not sure that the plane will fly today. Seems like it might be a little too breezy, but you never know. It's not that bad. It's about 36F out this morning. The board walks are dry, with little patches of frost and ice, but pretty easy to walk on today. I got my invoices in for the freighter we have coming in this weekend. So, I'm going to work on getting that priced up and get copies down to the store. That way they know what's coming in and how much space they will need for everything.

I guess our order of key blanks got sent up to Trident, and they just brought the box down to us today. They said they had it since some time last month. We've been needing those, we ran out of a type of key (kwikset I believe). So now we are stocked back up on key blanks. I go down and use the key cutting/cloning machine. Pretty easy to use, just make sure to wear safety glasses so you don't get pieces of flying metal in your eyes! Key's cost 1.00, that for the key blank and getting it cut.

We have a couple people who are supposed to be coming in today for the hotel. That fills our all our 5 rooms! (LOL) Well we have 6 rooms, but one is leased out to Lisa and Duy, they run the cafe. So that leaves us 5 to rent out. We have 2 - 1 br apartment with a living room area, kitchen, 2 beds, microwave, coffee maker, tv, table bathroom, phone, sm fridge, beautiful bay view and little hallway w/closet that go for $130 a night. Then we have 4 efficiency rooms, that have a full kitchen, bathroom, 2 beds, microwave, coffee maker, tv, phone, sm fridge, table and those go for $100 a night. Rates are for single occupancy, a charge of $10 per extra person will apply. West side rooms will feature views of the town including the clinic, cafe, and "police" station in the far back you can see my office building and the store. East side views are of the new city building, the building we call the duplex, my uncle's house {which he used to rent to the city as the Daycare back in the day, I used to work there for a bit when I was 18 (they closed not to long after that, no little kids to watch no more)}, and if you look straight out views of the bay on both sides.

We also have what we call the Salmonberry Inn, or as everyone knows it the bunkhouse. There are 6 rooms with 4 beds in each room. There is a shower stall and toilet in each room. 4 separate closets in each room. There is a shared phone and fridge in the hallway. Rates are $60 a night (single rate) with $10 fee per extra person. We also have a larger apartment in the front: which has a full kitchen, full living room, a good sized outside hallway. Up stairs there is one room on the left with one bed and closet space. On the right there is a room with 3 more beds and closets. Down stairs has a good sized master bedroom with "walk-in" closet. One bathroom, washer and dryer. I'm not sure exactly on the daily rate, we usually rent it out monthly for 1600.00 a month.

In all our rooms the kitchens are fully equipped with pots, pans, plate, cups and utensils. That way if the cafe isn't open you can still cook for yourself ;)

I guess I was wrong about the weather not being flyable. The plane came in just before lunch hour. The City shut the power off for about 50 mins at 1:30PM. They found the break in the power line and are repairing it now, but they have to obviously shut the power off! I guess ANTHC has some people coming in to check out the water treatment building and AHA has some people coming to do a town meeting. Waiting for the second scheduled flight to come in for those people.

It's pretty nice out, my hubby is done working with the city for now since they found the break and the only thing left to do is cover the trench they dug up. Not like you need 4 people to do that. So he's signed up to help tear down the old store building that the Corp owns. The building is about to fall in on its self anyways, it's so old! One of the oldest building left standing in town! But we have a crew of guys who are supposed to get going on that sometime here soon. So in the mean time, he is out cooking steam bath today! Nice day for it. Something to look forward too after work! Only other things I have planned is to watch Gangland on History Ch and Hells Kitchen on Fox! and maybe clean up a bit... I'm a slacker on cleaning. I'm happy the hubby picks up that slack for me! I take care of the animals at least!! :D

Some of the elders are finally getting their checks (social security and what not) in for this month. So I've been busy cashing their checks and writing receipts for the money they put on their store accounts. I should go check the mail, see if I got anything in ;)

We had Marie Calendar Turkey Pot Pies for lunch today. I think we're gonna finish up the other hot dogs we didn't cook up and have chili dogs again. It's either that or see what the cafe has cooking up tonight......

All in all not too bad a day today. At least I felt busy all day, feels good to be busy instead of just holding my chair down waiting for something to come in! :)

Wednesday, February 4

Wednesday, February 4, 2009

It's my oldest niece's birthday today, she's the big 09 today!! LOL! I hope she gets the stuff that I ordered and mailed to her! We woke up and the weather is not that bad this morning, kinda nice out. Slight sprinkle coming out of the clouds, the skies look cloudy, but it's clear out. Temps are in the high 20's. Looks like a good day for the first scheduled flight to make it in maybe....

Dante is doing great with my other two boys. Him and Roscoe love playing keep away and chasing each other around the house. Dante has been being a good little boy going potty on the pads (both #1 and #2!). Proud of him, he doesn't like anything about going outside. He follows me everywhere, he's starting to respond well to his name when I call him! Once he learns his name and to come, then I'll get started on sit, lay down and shake!

We're going to have taco snacks for lunch. They are Jose Ole brand, mini tacos. I like them with ketchup, or taco sauce! I cook them in the oven, but they taste great deep fried! We used to have them at the cafe back in the day when I was growing up. My sister Ivy said she's been searching Anchorage and can't find them anywhere, except on certain nights at Tudor Rd Bingo (she said they give like 5 with the dinner plate or something like that)

Not too busy a day. Ran out of general account checks, then we found out that the ones we ordered had been sitting down in the store with the grocery bags!! We have lots of payroll checks though, once we got that order in we ordered the gen. acct. checks. Nothing too great mail wise. We got some more grocery bags in for the store. I made sure to order a whole bunch this time. Seems like we're always running out. I gotta get the paperwork caught up with in the computer. I've been slacking on it, waiting for a "rainy" day I guess. It's raining enough today :P LOL!

First plane arrived at 1:15PM. Not sure what exactly is coming in, but at least I know mail will be going out! I've been trying to introduce Dante to everyone who comes up to the office. So far we bought some cash from the PO and made them a check, and I cashed a couple checks - one person putting money on their store bill. My mom mailed a backup copy of our bookwork to our account, who will do our audit for us! Thank goodness we do everything on the computer and it's easily to send copies to our accountants in Anchorage, instead of trying to see if they have time to fly out here and do it. When they do usually have people who have time to make it out here it's scheduled in July or August. So we'll have someone fly out to do this fiscal year's audit 08'/09'.

I snacked on some Animal Crackers... leading back to that question - are they just really sweet crackers or just cookies by another name? A rose still smells like a rose if called by any other name (or something like that). Always reminds me of that movie Armageddon - the part with Liv Tyler and Ben Afflec before he has to leave when they were out on their picnic (everyone should know what I'm talking about, so yeah). LOL... always reminds me of when I was a kid eating on them, how it still comes in the little circus box with the little line handle!

I have to get a store order out today... pronto! Freighter leaves next Friday, the 13Th (wow.. FRIDAY the 13, first one for 09!). I hope Eva (the store manager) is sure about this list of stuff she gave me that we only need. Looks like a small order this week. Basics: milk, bread, eggs - then some other little items we need like bacon, krazy glue, can fruit, etc... I need to get the invoices for what shipped last Friday, that should be coming in this weekend. We have some ice cream coming in! Other than that, nothing really exciting.

I think I'm going to make a stir fry tonight. Just have to get steak meat(I like top round or top sirloin) and a bag of oriental veggies (I usually just like broccoli, carrots, onions, and watercress-chestnuts{whatever they are called}). I should have rice at home. I like Niko Niko rice, two cups of water to one cup of rice, 25 min low boil and it's perfect! I like to rinse the rice out a bit until the water comes out clean (gets the starches cleaned off). I don't measure when I cook stir fry, I measure by how it smells. But I use oyster sauce, Chinese 5 spice, lemon pepper, garlic pepper, onion powder, soy sauce, lea & perrins, and a touch of ginger. I always like to shake a little bit of Johhny seasoning salt on everything (almost like how I like ketchup on almost everything!)

I figured I'd post a copy of my business card.
I scanned the front and back of it. :) so here it is :P

Well only thing I'm looking forward to on TV is Dog the bounty hunter and PPA (Philadelphia Parking Authority) which are all new on A&E tonight. Other than that, nothing much planned for this evening. I love just sitting around watching the pups play and trying to make sure that they don't pee where they aren't supposed to!

The store seemed pretty busy today. I hear lots of people coming in and out. Eva even had to come up to get some more change for her till! That's a good thing though, one bad thing, we had to give away all our expired yogurts (it was give them away or throw them away, so we let people have the choice to take them if they wanted.). Hopefully we don't have anymore waste like that. USDA won't let us keep anything on the shelves that's expired, so we make sure to keep up on our stock. (if we do will either sell it for like $1.00 or less or just give it away).

Ok well, the weather has gone to crap a bit this late afternoon early evening. I don't think the plane is going to come back for the second scheduled flight. At lunch hour I gas'ed up the corp bike with the last of the gas in the jerry jug, need to go get 5 more gallons from the city sometime! So now there is about 3/4 tank, was running on empty when I drove home at lunch time! Today was garbag day. I hope they picked up our garbage, I dont know if my hubby got it out early enough. If they dont, we usually stick it in the little wood dumpster thingy they have by the library (which is just down the boardwalk a bit). I'm going to try to find a good map of town and mark important buildings (incase anyone comes over here, they can't get "lost" -LOL) I'll be sure to keep an eye out for something.. I know I have some maps here in the office. but they are huge and posted on the walls.... maybe a pic of it... we'll see.. I'll post it one day ;)

I think the weather is forecasted to be shi**y like usual, but it's been nice lately... weird weather let me tell you! Temps at 3:40PM is hanging at 36F. Looks like it's lightly raining outside, it is completely fogged in now. Not really much wind at all, yet.

Tuesday, February 3

Tuesday, February 3, 2009

Wow.. so what a difference the weather is from going to sleep last night, waking up this morning, and walking down to work. Last night it was crappy, blowing like hell and snowing hard. Woke up to pour down rain. Dante is not even attempting to be going outside to potty yet, but he has been going on the pads every time so far (other than when his back legs are on the pad and he happens to be peeing on the floor, but he thinks he's on the pad.. lol). Then when I walked down to work at 10AM, it was beautiful out, the sun was shining and there wasn't even a breeze. Just all the sudden calm out... I don't know what the weather wants to do.

I brought Dante to work with me. He is so tiny and quiet that no one even knows he's here! He's been sleeping on my coat under my desk, getting up occasionally to drink, eat and potty. He likes to watch what my mom is doing and follow her around. My mom got a deposit done up and I've been working on December and January store billing. I pretty much got billing all entered in, printed out, enveloped up, now they are just waiting to be delivered. I usually stick them down in the store and people will pick their bills up when they come down to shop. For the businesses, we mail their bills.

We had a couple cancellations for the hotel, and then a couple hotel reservations came in for those rooms like right after the other people cancelled. So that worked out pretty good! My mom and I made like 5-6 checks for the Post office, buying their cash so that they can make their deposits and get their paperwork done up!

We ate at the cafe for lunch. I decided to have my usual french dip, and my hubby went for his usual chicken nuggets. All my pups were definitely happy to know that we were having that for lunch, it means they get some left overs to do tricks and beg for. I have to start to teach Dante stuff, right now learning his name and to come. He won't go near my husband for nothing, unless he's holding something tasty in his hands! I don't know what I want to cook up for dinner. Some days I hate having to cook, but then I get tired of eating the same stuff at the cafe. Hmmm... they were having lasagna rolls for the special today... maybe go back down and have that for dinner.

The weather is warm today, 39F! The sun is out, blinding white in the snow. Partly cloudy skies, almost like someone splashed milk over the light blue of the skies. I heard the plane is going to try to fly back to back flights this afternoon. Can you believe that the one flight that brought Dante over yesterday didn't even make it back to Dutch!! It had to fly all the way to Cold Bay! And my mom and aunty were going to fly to Dutch for my cousin Sophie's funeral. If they went they would have ended up in Cold Bay last night! I love hearing and seeing that plane flying around here, too bad it's going to be retired once we get that runway going on Akun island!

I'm going to try to get working on my taxes now. I got my booklet in and all the paperwork that I needed finally came in the mail! Oh I weighted Dante this morning, he is exactly 5 lbs! Roscoe is tipping the scales with 9.5 lbs of muscle! He doesn't seem that big though! But he has some good sized muscles and can hop at least 4+ feet into the air (no forward movement, just straight up). I'm not sure how many planes we had already, it's only 3:30PM and we had 2 since after lunch so far. Not sure if they are moving mail, people, or what.....

We ended up having the lasagna rolls. They came with a salad, and 2 pieces of cheezy bread! It was pretty good! It's lasagna rolled up not laid flat. Kinda like a cinnamon roll.

Pix Posted are:
Looking straight off my porch, just before I walked to work. Beautiful out!

Looking at town from my front door. That's the corp's 4-wheeler I get to use at lunch (company vehicle...lol)

Roscoe and Dante in the "corner" (9 panel doggie play pen located in the living room)

Me holding Dante in my jacket, getting ready to walk to work!

Dante resting under my desk! And another after he woke up... :)

The goose on the ramp, they just took his empty kennel out and put it on the ground. My cousin was just about to come out, she was holding him in her coat for the 20 min plane ride! Thanks Kay!

Dante, Roscoe and Me!

Dante is loving everything since he's been here! He is such a little lover, but he won't go near my husband for nothing. So you can tell he was raised around women!

The weather is completely crappy out. Definately worse than the blizzard we had a couple days ago. I am so lucky that it was nice out this morning to let the plane come in! It is snowing heavily, and blowing pretty hard. Can barely see town from where my house is located! It's not that bad temp wise, hanging out at about 34, but the wind chill is what kills ya!

I'm still searching for my camera cord... I have a memory card reader at work, so pix tomorrow by the latest!

We had Marie Calendar's Sweet and Sour chicken for dinner. Dante loved the chicken, but wouldn't touch the veggies for anything. Roscoe happily ate the veggies! Happy to see Dante get up and find the food and water dishes and using the potty pads! Won't be long until I have him doing tricks!

So I get to register Dante. I am changing his name to El Dante Miguel Cortez. I am happy that I get to register him with the AKC and have all his paperwork sent here to me (weather permitting). I have full registration of him, so if I ever do decide to breed my pups I will be able to hopefully give papers with them (making sure that I get an AKC registered female some day in the future, not any time soon). So I am happy about that. Get his pedigree and get a frame for it and put it on the wall with his brother's predigrees. I also like the fact that he's going to be registered under both me and my husband! :D I'm doing his registration online, because the lady I got it from already filled out the paper version. So I'm registering him online!
Yay, I'm so happy!!!

Yay! The went to walk our pups this morning, and it happens to be beautiful out! I can't explain this feeling I have inside me. It's like butterflies in my tummy, like I'm a little girl in love! I am hoping and praying hard that the weather holds up and lets the first flight come in. I called CB and gave him the weather report for over here, sounds like it's just as beautiful over there! CB said he's checking in the the airlines at 10, so hopefully they get over quick! I want to see my Dante! At 11AM, my cousin called me and said that she was holding Dante and waiting for their flight.

I got word that plane is going to be in, in 20 mins! I gotta grab my camera and go! I'll post pix and write more later!

I don't know where I put my camera cable. But Dante, or "Tez" as I'm calling him, is so cute! My cousin held him in her coat the whole Goose ride over. She said it was a crappy ride. I am so lucky that the plane came in, my prayers were answered. Thank you to everyone else to was wishing as hard as I was for him to get home to me, and THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU to CB and my lil sis for all their help in getting him home! He is the happiest little dog, took him an hour to open up to Roscoe. But now they are running around the house playing with each other! Dante wasn't house broken, but he went on to the potty pad and pee'd! I was so happy and proud of him, I hope I didn't scare him by praising and loving on him. The weather is now crappy and blowing a good 35 from the ESE. There is no way that another plane is going to make it in. There was my cousin, the pilot and a whole plane load of mail! YAY! My hubby got his new coat in, I surprised him and got him a new pair of gloves too! ;)

Dante's little tail wags a million miles a minute while he's playing with Roscoe! I'm so happy that they are getting long like 2 peas in a pod! He seems to get really scared when Roscoe barks though. He's so cute and Dante could almost pass as a clone of Roscoe, except for the fact that I pointed out that he has black sock, and Roscoe has white socks! I can't explain how excited I am that the weather was nice enough for that one flight I was praying so hard to come in, came in! He is being spoiled rotten, checking out the whole house, who he now gets to own/share with his two other brothers. Chewing on all the dog stuff we have laying around (believe me when I say I load up at the pet store on all kinds of stuff for my pups!) Some times my lil sis can't believe how much we actually spend on them, but it's worth it for them to be happy and enjoy a great life with everything they could ever want! (except a female... lol)

When I find my camera cable I will be sure to post pix of both my little babies playing together! I got one pic of the goose as it was getting on the ramp, I almost forgot my camera at the office and had to go running back to get it. I made sure to call CB, my lil sis and the lady I got him from to let them all know that he's home with me and getting used to everything! I think he's going to LOVE it here, and I'm going to love having him just as much!

The temp is actually hanging out around freezing. Feels good compared to the low 20's we've been having. The weather is supposed to get crappy for like the next week. Fore casted to be 35 mhp gusting to 50mph. So I'm super lucky that a plane made it in during the little break we had this morning. You wouldn't believe how flat calm and beautiful it was, the calm before the storm! Now it's back to the usual crappy, windy, snowy, rainy weather that's the norm for this time of the year.

I took the rest of the day off from work so that I can be home with Dante and let him get used to his new surroundings. Tomorrow is going to be a busy day, I have to get all the billing done for December and January. Then finish up getting all the paper work entered into the spreadsheets. I helped my mom get payroll done this morning, cashed a couple checked. Garbage day today, so we made sure to put our garbage out before we left the house this morning. On the weekdays pick ups are from 9AM until about 10:30AM, on Saturdays we put it out by noon no later than 1PM.

I have to say it's super cute watching Roscoe and Dante run around chasing each other playing! I'm so happy that I'm able to get another chi!!! I'm so excited to have him! The more the merrier! ;) Well I'm going to go watch them and play with both my little pups, Tug is way too big to be playing with them. He gets his own time out side with his ChuckIt - ball launcher thing. Again thanks for everyones hopes, thoughts and prayers for Dante to make it home, because he has arrived. So far seems like he's loving it! :D

I wonder if I got any other mail??? I don't think I'm expecting anything, maybe some good junk mail (magazines and stuff). I'll check later if I make it back down into town. We have to go back to the store before it closes to get something for dinner and some more sodas..... :D Chicken nuggets for lunch, both my little pups loved the little pieces we gave them!!!

Tug and Roscoe

I figured I'd talk about my other two "sons" that I have.

Our first pet we got together was our black lab, who is officailly registered with the AKC as Tug Gyrfalcon of Overlook Farms. My uncle lost his lab of 15 years to old age, and bought 2 puppies from the "valley". He ended up keeping one of the pups and selling the other one. I was luckily able to buy one of the pups from my uncle! Tug is one of the smartest dogs I have ever really been around! We went to this Hollywood Animals show at Universal Studios in Hollywood and they had these dogs that were doing all these tricks. And the whole time we were like "Hey, Tug can do that!" Only thing I haven't taught him is to "go on your mark". Where you have a small square or cirle like mat that you can throw down and have your dog go to that spot and stay. My Big Tug, as we call him, was born on November 17, 2004.

After a couple years, we figured Tug was old enough for us to get the small dog of our dreams, his new little brother. See a big dog was never what I really wanted. I have always wanted a chihuahua! But we ended up with our lab first, it's all good. Tug is so good with our chihuahua, who is CKC registered under the name El Chico Roscoe Valentino. He was born on December 15, 2007. I think what they say is right, once you get one, you have to get another! Roscoe is the perfect little baby, and he loves to travel everywhere we go! Valentine's Day is going to mark the one year anniversary since we got our little baby! We got him from a breeder down in Texas, and had him flown up to Anchorage on Continental Airlines. He was so bitty and tiny, my brother said "I heard of the pitter patter of little feet, but I would have never thought of it this way!" As my little Roscoe ran up and down the hotel room all night the first night we had him! We love him dearly, our dogs are our kids!

So, we were thinking about expanding our brood this year, and was in the market looking at breeders offering females in the right size and color that I want. But that is so hard, and I don't want to have to get a female that I can't make little Roscoe's with. And then I get an email about this little pup looking for a home. A small black male chi, that looks almost just like my Roscoe! I couldn't pass it up, and let the lady know I was interested. After she had a couple "appointments" to question other future owners, I guess she didn't have anyone that she wanted to give him to. Until she called me and started to ask me everything she asked everyone else. After like an hour on the phone she liked me and told me I can have him. I was so excited! I worked on everything to get him to me and my sister met up with her to pick my new little Dante up. So now I have a third son, who was born on July 26, 2008. I believe he's AKC registered, but I don't know for sure, he has all his papers on him though! His full name is Dante Cortez Jones. We might change his name if I can register him online, since she already has the paper registration filled out. Any white out or scratching out of other names voids the application. So I'll see if I can get him registered online! :)

I love all my babies, they are spoiled rotten. Ask anyone that knows me! My dogs have everything. My younger sister always tells me she's scared to see me have kids! She knows that they are going to be spoiled brats already, but I told her I'll raise my future kids right!
The pix posted are of my two sons ;)

PS.. my hubby is going to be the talk of the town. I "let him loose" and let him go up to have a beer or two with his younger bro. I guess everyone there was all surprised that he was even "allowed" to go up there... HA HA HA... like I said we don't really drink, but my hubby will have a couple cans of Bud at least once a month! But I thought I'd comment on that... LMAO!!

My hubby got off work late last night from doing the barge. I went up at about midnight and picked him up. We stayed up until about 3AM, and we were sleeping good until the phone rang at 8AM. I totally forgot that this morning my sister was putting Dante on his flight, she informed me he had everything he needed and was dropped off, his flight should leave at 9:30AM. We fell back asleep and woke up at 11AM. I called Pen-Air Cargo in Dutch Harbor to let them know my new baby was on his way, and that CB was going to pick him up for me and watch him until he can get on his flight here to Akutan! Thanks so much CB, I don't know what I would do with out someone who cares as much as you do to help out! So we had weather updates until 3PM, until finally they just cancelled the flights because the weather isn't getting any better. Starting to get snow squalls, which is just clouding over my hopes of getting Dante over here. Temps are hanging in the high 20's. Around 1:15PM CB called me and let me know he had arrived and was one cute pup! CB emailed me the pics posted! I can't wait to get him home!

It was kind of nice this morning, with a good 20 mph breeze from the West. I thought it might have been nice enough for a plane today, I prayed hard. But to no avail, the weather only started to get miserable. SO hopefully the weather agrees with me and opens up for my Dante to make it home! I'm exited and scared to see the reaction that my Roscoe is going to have, but it's said that chi's love to be in packs with other chi's! So, hopefully they get along great! They almost look like twins!!! Except my Roscoe has white "socks", and Dante has black "socks" (feet), lol!

I'm not really watching the game, but yet I'm kinda paying attention to the scores. I'm going for the team that everyone else don't like, so go Cardinals! So far there have been a couple good commercials. I liked the Bridgestone commercial with Mr. and Mrs. Potato head! The nagging wife/gf (like I get sometimes... but don't we all at times?? right girls?!?!, ha ha ha) driving down the road b**tching (doesn't matter what, as long as it's b**tching of some sort) then this group of sheep are on the road and he hits the brakes and her mouth goes flying off and he starts to smile and keep driving... and the she puts her angry eyes on! I thought that was pretty funny! Here is a link to it : http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.individual&videoid=51558389

We ordered a pizza from the cafe. Half Hawaiian for me, and half pepperoni for the hubby. We'll do nothing but sit around and lounge today. I'm keeping my hopes up and wishing hard for good weather so that the plane can fly Dante over. Pretty good pizza, I don't think I'm going to have to eat anything else today (we both ate like 3 pieces, leaving 1 each). Finish it up maybe after the game is done! Hoping they have something great planned for the half-time show. Jennifer Hudson didn't do a bad job on singing out National Anthem, Faith Hill sang America the Beautiful. The part we like is when the airforce jets fly over after the National anthem.

Not too big on Bruce Springsteen, but I know most the songs that he sings! Wasn't too bad I guess.... but you know it must be nice and loud there in that stadium! So far I think the Steelers are a head 17-7. Some of the beer commercials are stupid. Still waiting to see the one second Miller High Life commercial, HA!

The Superbowl game ended pretty good. I didn't know who was going to win that last minute of the game. But the Steelers won 26-23. The weather seems like it doesn't know what it wants to do. All the sudden it's beautiful out at 7PM. I'm hoping and praying that it's beautiful tomorrow. The forcast for the next week doesn't look good, but weather around here can change in 5 minutes! So we'll see, if not, Dante has a boat ride at the end of the week if the plane still hasn't flown by then. I'm hoping he don't have to make a boat ride. First time I took Roscoe over on a boat he got sea sick. I thought it was so cute but sad at the same time. My poor baby frothing up, eyes rolling around, looking at me like whats going on - throwing up into a puke bag. Just the thought of me holding him and trying to comfort him on the 5 hour ride over with his head in the puke bag - was kind of unexpected, but funny! I never thought I'd actually see a dog get motion sickness like that. I know I heard of dogs getting car sick... so I guess they can also get sea sick! But at least I know that the latest Dante can get to me would be by this coming weekend, but hopefully before then!

I think we're going to end our night playing one of the video games we have for our xbox 360, or pop some popcorn and watch a movie. Not sure if there is going to be anything interesting on tv. We have about 37 channels. I only really watch Discovery, History, A&E, TLC, NBC, VH1, MTV, and we watch Family Guy on two different channels. I like to watch the news and CNN just so I can keep up with what's going on in the world. We're going to sleep good tonight, I think we're going to bed early, catch up on the zzzzz's we missed out on last night!! Till tomorrow, have a great night!

Saturday Night, January 31, 2009

I still can't believe it's the end of the month already! The dog show was pretty good, I recorded it so my hubby can watch it later! I think I made him a dog person too!

It's super cold out still and blowing pretty hard once and a while, and my hubby is still out doing the barge. At least he's making some good hours this time, we have 3-4 people who work and we have to rotate them so they all get equal hours. And this barge was finally my hubby's turn to go up! Too bad the weather had to be so crappy out, only makes things slow down because it starts to get dangerous. I ended up walking down to get the 4-wheeler from by my parents house. What a crappy walk, but the dogs really enjoyed it. I bundled my Chi Roscoe up in like 2 sweaters and a coat! My lab Tug doesn't care, he just wants out and he especially loves the snow! He's like a little kid jumping in and out of snow banks!

I'm just going to sit around and keep flipping channels until my hubby calls for a ride home! The only reason why I walked down and got the bike in the first place. Trident is like a 20-25 min walk from my house, and that's in good weather! He's working pretty long and I don't want to have to have him out in that sh**y weather any more longer than he has to be. So I'll be sitting by my phone patiently waiting! He's going to sleep good tonight, and so am I. It's so weird, when you're used to having someone in your bed, and when they aren't there, it's so hard to fall asleep! Probably why I didn't sleep in as long as I wanted to this morning!

Well I hope everyone is having an exciting Saturday night, mine was spent at home watching the AKC dog show then just aimlessly flipping through channels trying to find something that catches my interest... nothing yet.... almost makes me want to put my home videos on from our Los Angeles trip last year! My husband and I love Los Angeles...... Can't wait to go back again! We are roller coaster/adrenaline junkies! We've been sky diving, on every ride southern California and Las Vegas has to offer as of November 08, and we're constantly looking for that next big "thing" to come along and get our heart pumping! I think the next thing I'd like to do is get in a shark cage and go swimming with the great whites..... but we'll see how long it takes for that to ever happen! We also want to go to Cedar Point, Ohio and get on this ride called Top Dragster :

Ok I'm out till tomorrow... take care everyone! Pray for good weather for me so my Dante to make it into my arms quickly! Thank you! :D
